Citysearch Reviews of the Galloway School...

I wish I had the same experiences that the parents Mbernalmorris and Mbernalmorris did. However, my experience was similar to the majority of the others.

  1. mbernalmorris has been the PTO president for the past 2 years. Of course things are just peachy for her.

  2. Of course! Just anothcer classic example of the blatant favoritism shown to certain parents who have the time and advantage of being more involved with extracurricular and/or fundraising activities than others.

  3. I found out that the email for this new school forming is:

    thenewtonschool.tx@gmail.com

Contact them with any questions. Obviously, the more parents that unite and support this school, the better it will be. They have some very interesting plans for the school and have spoken with leading educators in the local community. This is a ground floor opportuinty for parents to be involved in a transparent manner with all aspects of educating their children.

  4. mbernalmorris "feels privileged" to attend Galloway. That's the problem. It's what Galloway wants you to believe, that you are the one that is privileged. It is they that are privileged with the children they have the opportunity to educate. Yey Galloway, once again, skews the priorities back to a self-serving entity.

For too many people, it's a status thing. Bragging rights, perhaps.

  5. Any school that would have students coming from families that are committed to their child's developmental success should feel privelged to have those children and should do everything possible to satisfy the needs of those children and their parents. I do think much of it is bragging rights and a status symbol. For me, a privat school education has always been about the quality of instruction and the individualized attention to each child's learning needs. Isn't that why we are paying thousands of dollars to educate our children in private schools, when they very well could attend CCISD public school and get a generic, but decent education?

I withdrew my children from the Galloway school because of the way they handled my children, specifically my Son. He is flourishing at Goforth Elementary in League City while I am working on establishing a new provate school in the area. After speaking to many former Galloway parents, I have come to know that their children were deemed slow learners and needed to be held back at the Galloway school. However, these same students are at the top of their classes at other local public and private schools. So, does that mean the Galloway school is filled with genius level students? Hardly. In my opinion, if a student can't follow the Galloway curriculum, and it's unrealistically accelerated presentation of material in a very generic and age INAPPROPRIATE way, then that student is determined to be a slow learner or deficient in some maner. Any qualified teaching professional will tell you that every child has different ways of learning. Some are more visual, others more verbal, etc. Shouldn't a private school with a low student to teacher ratio be focused on identifying specific ways a student learns best and provide individualized instruction to help optimize that students learning?

I think the Galloway school thrives on having extremely busy parents feeling that such an "advanced" curriculum is a good return on their investment. Simply writing a check for the tuition and blindly believing that your child is truly learning by simply memorizing material for the test and forgetting the material shortly thereafter, is far from ideal. The artificially "accelerated" curriulum serves the purpose of allowing the parents to feel as if they are providing the most advanced curriculum for their children. But ask yoursleves, is that truly the most advanced LEARNING for your children? The type of leraning that will carry through to high school and beyond? Presenting advanced concepts of physics to a first grader seems amazing, but the fact that first grader will have no understanding of it a month or two after they were taught the concept is troubling to me. These are the formative years for our children and I don't think we can afford to make mistakes when it comes to their development.

Another parent posted recently that one of the Galloway teachers clearly stated that she moved on to a new topic once 50% of the class mastered that topic. I would say that most good public schools won't even do that. Leaving behind such a large proportion of the class is hardly a good idea. We need to put aside status symobols, bragging rights, and the extreme need to pat oursleves on the back for a job well done by providing a private education to our children, and INSTEAD, focus on what our children truly need in terms of academic instruction, self esteem development, and simply being a happy child.

Good luck to the new school. Parents considering private education options for their children should give this startup school serious consideration. Definitely an opportunity to shape the way your children are taught.

  7. It's a private school, of course people use it to brag and of course there will be favoritism...it's called life. It happens at public school to. I don't see the need to bash one school so badly bc you want to start your own. Go start your own and don't fool people into thinking it's not going to make you money and that you'r doing it all for the children...

    1. I have two successful companies that make me money. The Newton School will serve as a way to give back to the community. Isn't that what James and Marie Galloway intended with the Galloway School? They probably did have that intention, but it appears that the current Galloway School leadership is finding ways to turn a non-profit organization into a for-profit venture. Again, it appears from the tone and content of your post that you are associated with the Galloway School. In addition, the timing of your post the day before the information session for the Newton School casts further suspicion on your identity and motive.
